I’m Josh, and although I grew up in Ohio, my home since 2005 has been Europe. My background is as varied as the topics I cover on tours: I studied music composition and Spanish at Wittenberg University in Ohio and then International Relations at the University of Strasbourg in France. I’ve taught languages, waited tables, slept at reception desks, worked at a bank, and struggled as a social worker. Since 2016, though, I’ve discovered and fallen in love with Berlin.
My primary muse is Berlin’s architectural fabric, including the UNESCO world heritage housing estates, postwar reconstruction projects, 1960s slum clearance policies, and East-West grandstanding. As of 2021, I lead small tours of West Berlin, with a focus on the city planners and architects that gave us the modern and post-modern city we experience today.
I guide in English, French, Hungarian, German, and Spanish. I offer general tours (walking/public transport/bus) of Berlin and Potsdam, as well as specialized tours on the Cold War, Third Reich, geology, and, naturally, architecture. I am also a licensed guide at the Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen.
