I have been guiding for over twelve years now, beginning with Sachsenhausen – the former concentration camp north of Berlin. Over the years I began to specialise in tours focusing on the Nazi Period, Berlin’s Jewish History and the city’s rich architectural history. I also enjoy leading tours to Potsdam, which is a must-see for travellers spending any more than a few days in the German capital.
I was born in Dundee, Scotland but moved to Glasgow for studies after a brief but blissful year working in a dusty second-hand record store. I attended the University of Glasgow and obtained my MA (Hons) in Modern History and English Literature before moving to Munich in 2004. Bavaria was an unforgettable introduction to Germany but a brief visit to a snowy and somewhat eerie Berlin in the winter of that year made me realise that I’d found my future home.
After a return to the University of Glasgow where I gained an M.Litt in Modernities from the English Literature department, I returned to the spiritual home of Modernism for what I presumed would be a year or two. Almost fourteen years later, I’m proud to call myself a Berliner.
